The National Education Association publishes a magazine for retired teachers called NEA Today. They publish articles that help older folks stay active and healthy after retirement.
They wanted to do an article on a yoga studio right here in Durango CO where most of the students are retired teachers. Sandy Bielenberg runs the studio and is a retired teacher herself – she teaches four classes a week.
Yoga is great for keeping seniors looking and feeling young. It helps with brain health, maintaining muscles, and reduces stress. Many of these seniors also do other exercise such as running, biking, swimming, power walking, paddle boarding, and yes even gardening. They may be 60, 70, or 80 yrs old, but they believe themselves to be 40. I’m right there with them – my age is 60, but my mind says I’m 30.
